At first a field of multi-colored similar shaped roundish objects, neatly spaced, orderly. Then a limpet, conical shape dominates. The color schemes beyond what the Gulf of Maine offers: the largest carapace, a swirling Egyptian blue enlivened by an inner circle of eel grey mustard; adjoining that a white center decorated with a deep Indian red on the periphery, and another Indian red with a rakish sapphire center. I slow down with each decoration, sensing how the artist’s fingers feel, making one neat swirl after another, parsing out the colors to give individuality to each.
