  1. The artist has given us a painting without a focus. Every emblem in the frame is part of a community of emblems, equal in approximate shape, equidistantly placed to others, each isolated in its own white space belying the illusion of being in a neighborhood of boxes,. Yet, the painting is pleasing in the agency it seemingly offers me, the viewer. For, unguided by the artist, I look at what interests, drifting about from the range of purple shades to beiges. Drifting about the frame, I pause, staring at the whole, simply experiencing the magnetism of 99 boxes holding me–discovering perhaps, less agency in myself than I had ascribed,
