Balance
I see, as in many of the artists compositions, a strong sense of ocean: in the fins, back bending and twisting of the bottom fish, in the mauve humpback whale, the lilac descending eel next to it, the long ribbon of caramel kelp framing the upper right quadrant, the ascending dark eel grass; in the sense of current, upward diagonal seen in part with the head direction of most fist shapes. The artist does for me bring a balance of the abstract and representational. Colors are often non-representational, a hot pink whale, the lilac descending eel, the hunter green downward descending seal shape, far left, with a squash orange streak. Positions join in the non-representational e.g. the downward purplish reddish apex pointed gastropod balanced shiningly on a piece of drift wood. The ocean images for me energizes the abstract–a recognition of the depth at which nature penetrates my consciousness and perhaps that of the artist.
